Horsforth Fellandale did eventually enter a team into this prestigious event. And what a glorious day with, mainly, superb conditions. Although Brian and Carl do claim to have experienced hail, the Met Office have been unable to confirm as yet.
On the extremely tough leg 1 was yours truly, Gary, and a relatively new member Adrian Kennedy. We had reccied the route the previous week, which served mainly to make me more apprehensive about the descent off Red Screes. As it turned out we had a good run and met our main targets of survival and beating the mass start. The secondary target of beating the Brownlee brothers, (running for Bingley and including the world triathlon champion), was not quite achieved.
Brian K and Carl P took over having been somewhat surprised at not being a part of the mass start. They had a good run and then handed over to John Varley and Phil Hancock who had a storming run to go round in 51 minutes on leg 3. Finally onto the Wilsons, on their second trip down from Scotland in a week, to bring us in in 60th place overall. Results available on the Sportident website.
So thanks to all concerned for ensuring we got a team in. Particularly to Adrian, new to the club, for running and giving up time to reccie. Likewise to our late entrants Brian and Carl. And a special thanks to John Varley for agreeing to run at late, late notice.
